Elephant hit by train breaks legs, lands in ravine

Junita Mat Rashid, New Straits Times May 25, 2007 SEGAMAT: An elephant crossing a railway line in Bekok early yesterday sustained two broken hind legs when it was hit by a train. The impact of the collision flung the animal, believed to be 10 years old and weighing about a tonne, into a 15m ravine near the tracks. Wildlife and National Parks Department officers and doctors from the Veterinary Services Department were trying to save the elephant, which was reported to be in critical condition.
